Just reading something at Consumerism Commentary, and the question popped into my head, "Who still keeps money under the mattress (or some similar hiding area)?"
I have a couple hundred, maybe three hundred at most, lying around in various places, but honestly, I only remember the location of a $20 bill. I put them there mainly because, well, I just needed someplace to put them, and they stayed there. Some of my cash has been stashed away since high school.
Do you hide cash away?

Actually, I do, but it's got a purpose. I have a cash reserve of money dedicated to playing poker. Essentially, I don't want my poker finances to intersect with my reguar finances in a negative fashion without explicitly taking money from my regular budget and putting it into poker. So I keep it all completely separate, unless I'm "withdrawing" funds from poker to add to my regular finances as income.
Money lying around? Sure, for poker. Now, if only it looked like that opening scene from Rounders..... ;-)
I've got a big change jar for all my change and the occasional dollar bill.
Chippingaway, I'm imagining a few duffle bags full of cash. You know if it's a decent amount of cash though, you should probably put it in a bank so it can earn interest...Just stating the obvious...lol
Hey shamedsteven, try and see if you can find a few rare coins in that pile...BTW, how do you fit that jar under your mattress?? :) JK...
I've got some money stashed in my dresser, it varies all the time and I don't think its ever been more than $300. Once I opened up a flashlight to change the batteries and found a $20 I had stashed inside it and forgot about.
I do stash some cash away just in case I need cash. There is something about having a roll of cash that gives me a little comfort. Sort of an immediate emergency fund for little things. I hardly use it but once in a while it comes in handy.
